Underwater cities. Space stations. City-sized ships.
The stuff of science fiction is just day-to-day business for Jacque Fresco, a futurist who’s come across my radar a few times in the past. He’s a designer and an inventor with a view on where we’re going and what we need to change to survive.
His latest work is The Venus Project – a vision of how to integrate the best of science and technology into a comprehensive plan for a new society based on both human and environmental concerns.
Click on the link above and you’ll see some absolutely breathtaking art that wouldn’t look out of place on an SF book cover. You can find out more about The Venus Project here:
This does all look ver, very groovy :)
In the comics and relevant books of the 50s they tended to see the world of today being full of such buildings. We’d all be wearing shiny cat suits and have our own personal rockets. Not there yet.

We have the technology to create such word today, this is a fact. There is one thing that withdraws the progress, which is that we haven’t declared all the Earth’s resources as the common heretage if all the world’s people. If we do that, (and implement other solutions of The Venus Project) we will experience rapd technological advancement.
That kind of society would take less than 10 years to build. We just have to decide, that we want a better world.
Sadly the real challenge would be in convincing big business & goverments that this would be in their interests. Good luck with that…
Sadly the observations of Wizek contrasted with those of Dawfydd just about sum up the world. Whatever level you want to implement change there’s somebody there who wants to profit from it or who feels that the profit they are making is under threat. BAh!!
Sorry, I’m in a bit of a miserable cynic mode at the moment. ;p
That’s all right! I don’t hold you personally responsible for the Capitalist Economy we currently “enjoy”.
Damn! That was on my list of things to take impalusible responsibility for…..
I’ve read a bit about this before. While I’m not sure how realistic the technological advancements this project speaks of are (is anyone else – anything I could read written by engineers?) I think the sentiment is spot on. I’ve always thought a one-world government could be the best or worst thing possible. With the right people in charge (B&SoD style existence driven roulette?) and everyone equipped with everything they needed to live at a high standard, the greed machine could well collapse.
I think its a very creative way to plan for a sustainable future
Thought you might like my machinima film,
